Sad Accidental Demise of Logistics and Air Freight and Passenger Group Boss Leads Staff News
This week round-up of staff changes in the freight and logistics sector begins with the sudden death of HNA Group’s co-Founder and co-Chairman, Wang Jian, who died at the age of 57, in an accident in Provence, France, whilst on a business trip with local police said that Wang accidentally fell from a parapet while taking photographs on July 3. Co-Founder Chen Feng will become the company’s sole Chairman and will continue to serve as Chief Executive Officer.
Wang built his career in the aviation industry, having started out in civil aviation planning in 1983. HNA grew out of regional carrier Hainan Airlines, which began operations in 1993. The conglomerate now has more than 10 airlines among its affiliated companies. It also has finance, logistics and technology businesses.
SWITZERLAND – Swissport, which is part of the HNA Group, has announced its President and CEO, Eric Born, will step down at the end of the year, a role in which he has served for the last 3 years.
UK – The United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA) has announced the appointment of Baroness McIntosh of Pickering as its new Honorary President, succeeding Lord Brabazon of Tara, who is leaving his post after 25 years with the Association.
UK – The Chief Executive of Port of Tyne, Andrew Moffatt is to step down at the end of the year, after ten years at the helm.
GERMANY – The Bomin Group has announced former Head of Global Bunker Operations, Jan Christensen as its new Managing Director for Bomin Bunker Holding in Hamburg, taking over from Thomas Roller.
SWEDEN – Volvo Trucks has named Edward Jobson as Vice President of the new Electromobility function. He most recently served as Chief Engineer at Volvo Buses.
US – Commissioner Daniel Maffei has left the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) following the expiration of his one-year holdover period from his term’s official expiration on June 30, 2017. The FMC would have five Commissioners on it board when fully staffed. The departure of Maffei leaves just two, Acting Chairman Michael Khouri and Commissioner Rebecca Dye.
Commissioners serve on set five-year terms. Commissioners must be nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate for each term they serve. Commissioners are allowed to stay in their position for one-year past the expiration of their term if their replacement has not been confirmed by the Senate.
Commissioner Maffei joined the Commission on July 18, 2016 after having served as a Senior Advisor at the Department of Commerce and as a Member of Congress representing the 24th and 25th Congressional Districts of New York.
US – Jack Jensen Jr, founder of Transportation Consultants (TCI) has been appointed to the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans as one of the two Jefferson Parish representatives on the board. He will succeed Robert Barkerding Jr. The International Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers of New Orleans honoured Jensen with the 2015 Honorary Life Member Award.
